The Competition
| 1. | The competition is designed to offer an opportunity to outstanding young musicians to perform live in concert with a symphony orchestra. |
| 2. | Each contestant will submit an application signed by teacher and parent or guardian. |
| 3. | Applicants will be notified of the audition schedule after October 25, 2008. |
| 4. | Applicants perform for a panel of judges. |
| 5. | Up to three winners will be selected and invited to perform with the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra on Saturday March 28, 2009. |
| 6. | The decision of the judges is final. |

Repertoire
Applicants should perform from memory either
| 1. the first movement of any standard concerto, | |
|
| both the second and third movements of any standard concerto, OR |
| 2. a standard piece from solo literature that can be performed with orchestral accompaniment. | |
| 3. Vocalists are required to perform from memory two contrasting songs or arias from different stylistic periods. |
ALL APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN ACCOMPANISTS.

| 2. Each winner will be awarded $100.00 by the Joseph Esposito Memorial Fund. |
Eligibility
Pianists or instrumentalists up through their senior year in high school and vocalists through age 21 are eligible. Applicants must live within a 50-mile radius of Pittsburgh. In 1992, this competition was begun in honor and memory of these two past members to encourage and recognize young talent. Lois Smith was a founding member and first president of the local South Hills Chapter PMTA and was an active organist and pianist. Lois Streator performed extensively as soloist and accompanist, serving as the pianist for the Mendelssohn Choir for 22 years. As close friends and colleagues, they also appeared as a piano duo called "Lois and Lois."

This competition is open to students of all instruments, grades 7-12 (singers through age 21), who live within a 75-mile radius of Pittsburgh. Two contrasting works from the standard concert repertoire are required. There are three cash awards: $200, $150, and $100 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Winners perform in the March Honors Recital at Trombino Piano Gallerie.
